One Possible Future for Taiwanese Farming: The Formosa Goose Model
蔡英地 CEO, Formosa Goose
This meeting welcomes 蔡英地, CEO of Formosa Goose Innovative Agriculture, to share the hands-on experience of a multinational finance executive who returned home to reshape farming in Yunlin.
At forty 蔡英地 traded his suit for rubber boots, leaving a finance role at a multinational technology firm to raise geese in his hometown of Yunlin. Facing extreme weather, labour shortages and an ageing workforce, he led his team to introduce climate-controlled poultry housing, renewable-energy facilities and data management, gradually building a full ecosystem from production and energy to brand marketing — carving out a path that balances commercial viability with sustainable development.
From a goose farm to the Goose Shop brand, from traditional livestock farming to co-located energy storage, the Formosa Goose story is not just about agricultural innovation — it is an experiment in local industry upgrading and bringing young people back to the land.
As more and more young people leave the countryside, 蔡英地 chose to return to the soil and rethink what farming can be. His practice also opens a window onto another possible future for Taiwanese agriculture.
